A camp axe sold by Walmart is being recalled because it poses a major injury hazard.
The axe head on the Ozark Trail camp axe can detach from the handle which poses a major risk and injury hazard. Roughly 246,000 models were recalled on Oct. 3 from Walmart stores both online and in-person.
The steel tubular axe measures 14 inches long from handle to axe head, and weighs roughly 1.25 lbs. There is a black, non-slip rubber grip and claw feature. The model number is 60111140 and can be found on the product packaging.
So far there have been two reports of axe heads detaching from the handle which resulted in minor cuts and abrasions. A major problem with the axe head detaching is not only the potential for it to injure from force, but the sharpness from the tip of the axe head as well.
The axes were sold online and nationwide in stores from January 2017 through July 2018 for roughly $8. It is manufactured by Gardex of India.
