The flour in question was milled at the ADM Milling Facility in St. Louis, Mo. before it was repackaged and distributed nationally by Hodgson Mills.

What is Pathogenic E. coli?

Pathogenic E. coli is an illness most commonly caused by contamination of the food we consume.

While the effects of exposure to E. coli vary in different people they can be deadly to immunosuppressed individuals, the elderly and children. It is in these groups of people that a condition known as hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS) can develop. HUS causes kidney failure and is fatal.

What are the symptoms of E. coli?

If infected with E. coli, people typically feel the onset of symptoms within 3 – 4 days. However, symptoms can be as immediate the day of ingestion or as delayed as 10 days after.

Symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Nausea
  • Fever
  • Confusion
  • Dehydration
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Bloody Diarrhea
  • Seizures
  • Kidney Failure
