Belviq Recall Lawsuit
According to a new study, the weight loss drug Belviq (lorcaserin) has been linked to an increased risk of cancer. In addition, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) just requested that the manufacturer of Belviq and Belviq XR voluntarily recall the weight-loss drug from the U.S. market.
FDA Belviq Recall
After the FDA received the results of the study and analyzed the information, it determined that more patients taking Belviq were diagnosed with cancer compared to patients taking a placebo.
The FDA recalled Belviq on Feb. 13, 2020.
“We are taking this action because we believe that the risks of lorcaserin outweigh its benefits based on our completed review of results from a randomized clinical trial assessing safety.”
What types of cancer is Belviq causing?
Although the FDA found that Belviq caused a variety of cancers, the agency specifically stated that they found pancreatic, colorectal and lung cancer as being more prevalent.
