Farberware 7-in-1 Pressure Cooker Review
The Farberware 7-in-1 programmable pressure cooker was the clear winner in a 2017 assessment by Good Housekeeping. Not only was it the most affordable model tested, retailing at around $60, but it also performed better on tests of meal preparation.
“Stew meat came out melt-in-your-mouth tender,” reviewers raved, “and vegetables held their shape when we pressure-cooked and slow-cooked. Plus, this cooker’s programs offer lots of settings and options: soup/stew, rice/risotto, steak/meat, chicken, beans/lentils, steaming fish or vegetables, browning/searing and slow cooking.”
The Farberware model had only a couple drawbacks. The pressure cooker took longer to depressurize than its competitors. And second, its manual was lacking in instructions and “difficult to follow.” Each of these flaws becomes more ominous in light of reports of burn injuries caused by Farberware pressure cookers.

Farberware Pressure Cooker Explosions
One thing Farberware does make clear in its owners manual is that its pressure cooker has a “large locking lid,” one which “prevents the cooker from opening while pressurized.” It’s a key safety component, perhaps the single most important one, as the contents inside a working pressure cooker are not only pressurized but can reach temperatures around 250 degrees, well above boiling.
That’s likely one of the elements being referred to on Walmart.com, where one selling point of the 7-in-1 cooker reads: “Built-in safety features ensure the cooker never puts you at risk.”
Despite these claims, numerous owners of Farberware pressure cookers have been subject to horrific burn injuries caused by their defective devices. Some were attempting to open the unit when the top exploded off and contents splashed onto them. Others were in the wrong place at the wrong time as the device exploded untouched.
Farberware Pressure Cooker Lawsuits
Johnson//Becker clients allege their injuries were caused by poorly designed and manufactured Farberware products. The fact that the pressure cooker lid can still be opened while under pressure, despite Farberware’s claims to the contrary, turns the well-reviewed countertop appliance into a liability.
Farberware’s claims of safe operation of their pressure cookers “are not just misleading, they are flatly wrong, and put innocent consumers… in harm’s way,” according to one recent Johnson//Becker lawsuit against the manufacturer.
Marketing and selling pressure cookers that could and did injure people was “extreme and dangerous,” according to another lawsuit, which alleges Farberware was aware of “safety and efficacy problems and suppressed this knowledge from the public.” Farberware, that suit continues, made “conscious decisions not to redesign, warn or inform the unsuspecting consuming public,” putting its own customers at risk of severe injuries.
Farberware Pressure Cooker Burn Injuries
Incidents caused by defective Farberware pressure cookers have resulted in trips to the emergency room, doctor’s offices and a long road to recovery. Victims of faulty pressure cookers have endured extreme pain, both in the moment of explosion and long after the incident, and have lost time at work, socializing, and with their families.
Potential damages that can be caused by an exploding pressure cooker include:
- First-, Second-, and Third-Degree Burns
- Doctor Visits and/or Hospitalization
- Infection
- Skin Grafts
- Lost Time from Work
- Permanent Scarring and/or Disfigurement
- Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
Damage inflicted by Farberware pressure cookers is not just superficial or financial. A man could not see out of his right eye, where a Farberware lid had flown off and hit him, for one month after the incident. One woman became self-conscious of her appearance because her hair will not grow back over a burn scar on her head. Another burn victim’s young daughter is scared to go into the kitchen when anything is cooking, even the microwave.

Will my Farberware Pressure Cooker Lawsuit be Handled Individually or as Part of a Class Action Lawsuit?
Johnson//Becker will handle and file your case individually, giving your case the individual care and attention you deserve. Our lawyers feel strongly that it is not in our clients’ best interest to file or join a class action lawsuit for two reasons. First, class actions are designed to address damages that are usually economic in nature, not personal injuries, the severity and effect of which will vary from person to person. In other words, what is a fair resolution in one case may not be a fair resolution in another case. In addition, in a class action, the control and decision-making process is consolidated with one “Class Representative”, who oversees making decisions for everyone in the class. If that Class Representative is not you, someone you have never met and who has no incentive to put your best interests first will get to make the decisions that will affect your case.
Finally, we feel strongly that it is in our client’s best interest to file an individual lawsuit, as class action lawsuits in product liability personal injury cases typically result in far lower settlements. At Johnson//Becker, PLLC our goal is to maximize compensation for our clients, and for this reason we only file individual lawsuits.
