Costway Pressure Cooker Explosion
Modern electric pressure cookers were meant to be an easier and far safer alternative to their stovetop predecessors. Basic defects to the operation of these pressure cookers, sometimes branded as “multicookers,” have turned some models from a quick-cooking marvel to a countertop liability.
Typically, pressure cooker burn injuries occur when a lid can be twisted off despite the contents still being under pressure, sending the scalding hot contents erupting in all directions. In rare instances, defectively designed lids explode off without the user even touching the lid.
These incidents occur despite manufacturer assurances of safety features meant to protect the user and their family from burn hazards.
Costway advertises one pressure cooker for sale on its website like this: “It is very safe to use while saving half of the cooking time and energy for you compared with ordinary cookers.”
Costway Pressure Cooker Lawsuit
Costway pressure cookers have malfunctioned in both of the ways mentioned above, according to Johnson//Becker clients. One woman was alarmed to find her Costway shaking on the countertop with steam and liquid spewing out of it. As the attempted to stabilize the device, the lid erupted off, and its super-heated contents splashed onto her abdomen and wrist.
Another user was confident his seafood gumbo had depressurized minutes after he had manually opened the valve. Instead, the lid popped off like a champagne cork, sending food and liquid all over his kitchen and burning his wrist.
Costway pressure cookers endanger users through flawed design and manufacturing, failing to warn consumers of the danger they pose, overzealous marketing, and a failure to recall or redesign a defective and unsafe product.
One Johnson//Becker Complaint against Costway alleges the pressure cookers “possess defects that make them unreasonably dangerous for their intended use by consumers because they can spontaneously and unexpectedly explode during their normal and directed use.” What’s worse, the Complaint continues, is that a Costway pressure cooker comes “completely devoid of any meaningful warnings and/or instructions.”
Johnson//Becker attorneys have extensive experience handling pressure cooker cases, including against Costway.
