Cosori Pressure Cooker Safety Claims
Not long ago, Cosori was a viable challenger to the Instant Pot, the clear bestseller in the world of electric pressure cookers. In a side-by-side comparison on the website iMore.com, Cosori compared favorably to its heavily marketed opponent. The Cosori pressure cooker had many of the same features as an Instant Pot and, at only $64, came at a lower price than the industry giant.
Cosori has since stopped marketing the pressure cookers that once feature prominently on its website. On Amazon.com, each of several Cosori pressure cookers is listed as “Currently unavailable.”
However, the Amazon page does give shoppers an idea of what they’re missing thanks to a video advertising Cosori’s pressure cookers, which claimed that the Cosori pressure cooker had “10 safety mechanisms,” including a “lid position monitor” and “lid lock safety.”
Cosori Pressure Cooker Explosion
A properly functioning safely locking lid should act to keep consumers from explosions that could release the hot, pressurized contents inside a Cosori pressure cooker.
However, that’s not how it worked for one woman. One day in August 2019, a Cosori user planned to make a chicken soup following a recipe provided by the company itself. When the pressure cooker timer went off and the woman detected no steam coming from the unit, she went to gently turn the lid.
Immediately, the food and liquid inside the unit exploded out, causing burns to her chest, stomach, and arm. Treatment of her injuries lasted weeks, and the woman was forced to stop breastfeeding due to pain medications doctors prescribed. Both she and her three-year-old daughter, who was also injured in the explosion, continue to have problems related to the event.
Cosori Pressure Cooker Lawsuit
That experience mirrors what happened to a woman who had attempted to use her Cosori in November 2018. Instead of locking in place, the lid was able to open while the contents were still under pressure, causing an explosion that badly burned her.
The victim, who later retained Johnson//Becker and sued Cosori’s parent company Arovast, sustained severe burn injuries as a result of her pressure cooker explosion. She was forced to spend 10 days in intensive care, and received three skin graft surgeries.
Despite Cosori’s supposed “safety mechanisms,” the Complaint in that case alleges the pressure cooker was “defectively and negligently designed and manufactured,” specifically because the lid did not lock in place as promised.
“Cosori failed to exercise ordinary care in the manufacture, sale, warnings, quality assurance, quality control, distribution, advertising, promotion, sale and marketing of its pressure cookers,” the Complaint alleges, and is therefore liable for compensation to the victims of its defective products.

Will my Cosori Pressure Cooker Lawsuit be Handled Individually or as Part of a Class Action Lawsuit?
Johnson//Becker will handle and file your case individually, giving your case the individual care and attention you deserve. Our lawyers feel strongly that it is not in our clients’ best interest to file or join a class action lawsuit for two reasons. First, class actions are designed to address damages that are usually economic in nature, not personal injuries, the severity and effect of which will vary from person to person. In other words, what is a fair resolution in one case may not be a fair resolution in another case. In addition, in a class action, the control and decision-making process is consolidated with one “Class Representative”, who oversees making decisions for everyone in the class. If that Class Representative is not you, someone you have never met and who has no incentive to put your best interests first will get to make the decisions that will affect your case.
Finally, we feel strongly that it is in our client’s best interest to file an individual lawsuit, as class action lawsuits in product liability personal injury cases typically result in far lower settlements. At Johnson//Becker, PLLC our goal is to maximize compensation for our clients, and for this reason we only file individual lawsuits.
