Ancheer has initiated a recall of electric bicycles, citing the risk of injuries caused by malfunctioning batteries.
The recall announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) states that the lithium ion battery that powers certain Ancheer bikes can “ignite, explode, or spark, posing fire, explosion, and burn hazards to consumers.”
The recall affects 22,000 bicycles. The e-bikes were sold between January 2016 and June 2022, and have the model number AM001907. Ancheer sold the bikes online at retail websites including Amazon.com, Ebay.com, and Walmart.com, among others.
The company has received six reports of exploding batteries, resulting in four burn injuries.
Consumers who own one of the recalled bikes are instructed to contact Ancheer for a free replacement battery and battery mount.
