Polaris Industries, Inc. announced a voluntary recall of their Sportsman and Scrambler 1000 S All-Terrain vehicles due to fire and injury hazards. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) posted the recall notice on Jan. 5, 2023.
Why were Polaris’ vehicles recalled?
According to Polaris’ official website and the CPSC, there have been 16 reports of electrostatic discharge outside the fuel tank, sparking a fire while the consumer refueled their vehicle.
Polaris and the CPSC initiated the recall due to serious risk of injury and fire hazards.
One of the CPSC reports detailed a personal injury, and another addressed property damage outside the US.
Polaris issued a “Stop Sale, Stop Ride” notice on Nov. 3, 2022 following communication with CPSC.
Which Polaris products were recalled?
The recall includes model years 2020-2023 of Sportsman 1000 S and the Scrambler 1000 S All-Terrain Vehicles, or ATVs. The model name along with “XP” is printed on the side of the chassis, or frame of the vehicle.
The ATVs were sold in a variety of colors: black, orange, gray, blue, and graphite. These models were manufactured in Medina, Minnesota and sold at Polaris dealerships nationwide.
Polaris recalled a total of 3,800 units in the United States, with 780 in Canada.
While it is not stated explicitly on Polaris’ website on which VINs are included in the recall, consumers can check Polaris’ product safety recall database to search their own model.
Owners of this recalled vehicle should immediately stop use.
