Shop Me Ca’s Diep Bao baby cream has been recalled due to serious risk of lead poisoning. The recall was posted by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Feb. 1, 2023.
Why was the Diep Bao baby cream recalled?
Shop Me Ca’s product may contain high amounts of lead. Use of this contaminated product may result in acute lead poisoning.
The Oregon Health Authority (OHA) initiated the Diep Bao Cream recall after testing two samples of the product. Both samples contained high levels of lead. Two infants exposed to the cream were found to have elevated levels of lead in their bloodstream.
What is lead poisoning?
According to Mayo Clinic, lead poisoning is when lead builds up in the body over a long period of time.
It can be difficult to determine lead poisoning in the early stages, since individuals can appear healthy while having high levels of lead in their bloodstream.
Symptoms of lead poisoning can have a very wide range. Some examples include abdominal pain, muscle weakness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, and bloody or decreased urinary output. A more detailed list of lead poisoning symptoms is listed on Mayo Clinic’s site.
Small amounts of lead can still pose serious health issues. It’s best to exercise prevention before these issues arise.
Acute lead poisoning can damage the nervous system and internal organs.
Children are most vulnerable to lead poisoning, especially those under the age of six. If they are exposed to a product contaminated with lead for a long period of time, permanent damage to their development and nervous system can occur. As a result, learning disorders, developmental defects, and long-term health problems can develop.
What products were included in this recall?
Only one product is included in this recall, which is the cosmetic product Diep Bao. The label on the Diep Bao baby cream is in Vietnamese.
This baby cream was sold nationwide via the Shop Me Ca’s Facebook Page. The Vietnamese Moms’ Facebook group also sold this product, though they are not associated with the company.
The Shop Me Ca voluntarily recalled their product, and the FDA posted the recall on their website.
The sale of the product has been suspended while the FDA, OHA, and Shop Me Ca investigate the source of the problem.
Consumers should immediately dispose of Diep Bao Cream. In the case of health issues arisen due to the cream, consumers should consult their healthcare physician.
