On Feb. 10, 2023, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) broadcasted a recall of Textron’s E-Z-Go PTVs, aka, golf carts. These specialized vehicles were recalled due to fire hazards.
Why were the Textron golf carts recalled?
According to the CPSC, Textron received 30 reports of the electronic board overheating and causing a fire. Two incident reports described property damage as a result.
About 143,000 units were recalled, including 8,100 units in Canada and 1,000 units in Mexico.
No injuries have been reported.
What models are included in this recall?
The recall includes the following models:
- Model years 2021, 2022 and 2023 Freedom and Valor E-Z-Go TXV personal transportation vehicles. Serial numbers range from 5585710 through 5716926
- Model years 2021, 2022 and 2023 Valor, Express and Liberty E-Z-Go TXT personal transportation vehicles. Serial numbers range from 3478457 through 3591890.
Serial numbers are located close to the base of the steering column for RXV models, and printed below the operator seat position for TXT models.
The above recalled products also come with an optional USB charge port.
Some of the PTVs were previously recalled in September 2021, January 2022, and September 2022.
Owners of the above products should cease use of them immediately. Consumers should make sure the key switch is turned to OFF, and do not connect the electric powered PTVs to power.
