A Kentucky man filed a class action lawsuit against EzriCare eye drop manufacturers on Feb. 4, 2023. He accuses the companies for instigating bacterial infections caused by the EzriCare eye drops.

Richard Mosely, the plaintiff for the Kentucky class action lawsuit, filed the complaint stating the eye drops “are contaminated with bacteria called Pseudomonas aeruginosa and linked to an outbreak of infections in 12 states that is under investigation by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”

EzriCare eye drops have been linked to numerous bacterial infections across the U.S.

EzriCare eye drops were recalled on Feb. 1, 2023, due to the artificial tears being infected by bacteria. A total of 55 people has been identified to be infected with the bacteria. Three consumers have permanently lost their eyesight, and one consumer has died from a systemic infection.

What is the bacteria infecting the eye drops?

The bacteria, named Pseudomonas aeruginosa, is “notorious for being ‘versatile’ and ‘innately drug resistant’” according to the complaint.

This particular strand infecting consumers is dangerous and very resistant to many antibiotics.

Mosely alleges EzriCare manufacturers violated the Kentucky Consumer Protection Act.

This is not the only time EzriCare has been sued, however. A New Jersey woman filed a lawsuit against the eye drop manufacturers on Feb. 11, 2023.
