English Riding Supply (ERS) recalled their Ovation Protégé equestrian helmets since it failed to meet safety standards and could lead to impact injuries. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) initiated the recall on Feb. 9, 2023.
Why were the ERS Ovation Protégé helmets recalled?
According to the CPSC, the recalled helmets failed to meet federal safety standards for this type of helmet, creating a potential injury hazard if consumers fall and hit their heads.
The equestrian helmets were manufactured in Taiwan, and imported by English Riding Supply LLC in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
There has been no record of injuries or incidents as a result of these helmets.
What models are included in this recall?
The official model’s name for the recalled product is Ovation Protégé equestrian helmet. It has “OV” printed in front of the helmets and has several finishes and colors. All colors and finishes under this model name are included in this recall.
These helmets were sold in tack shops and English equestrian specialty stores nationwide. Amazon and statelinetack.com were the only online stores that carried the Ovation Protégé helmets.
49,300 total helmets have been recalled, with 5,270 sold in Canada.
Consumers should immediately stop using these helmets and destroy them. To destroy the recalled helmets, consumers should cut off the harness straps.
