On Oct. 26, 2023, Best Buy’s Insignia brand pressure cookers were recalled due to a risk of exploding hot liquids onto consumers and causing serious burn injuries.
According to the CPSC, the Insignia pressure cooker has incorrect volume markings on the inner pot. Consumers can unintentionally overfill the pressure cooker, which can lead to exploding liquids when the pressure cooker is vented.
Best Buy has received 31 incident reports where the pressure cooker’s contents were expelled under pressure. 17 burn injuries were also reported, including reports of second-degree burns.
Approximately 930,000 pressure cookers were included in the recall.
What models are included in the Insignia pressure cooker recall?
The recall includes the following model numbers:
- NS-MC60SS8
- NS-MC60SS9
- NS-MC80SS9
The recall also includes the following model numbers for inner cooker pots, which are sold separately as replacements:
- NS-MCRP6NS9
- NS-MCRP6SS9
The recalled pressure cookers were sold in six- and eight-quart capacities.
