When hikers, backpackers or campers enter the backwoods to go camping or embark on a lifelong dream of completing a challenging thru-hike, they expect their equipment to be safe and perform as advertised. Unfortunately for some, the MSR cooking pots have caused a number of burn injuries.
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the pot handle can detach or come loose, posing a burn or scald hazard from hot food and liquids spilling from the pot.
The February 22, 2024, recall includes over 60,655 units. MSR is written on the side of each pot.
The anodized aluminum, lightweight cooking pots range from between 1 to 2 liters and are sold individually or as part of a stove system or kit. The following models are part of the recall: Reactor, Trail Lite, and PocketRocket Stove Kits.
The CPSC warns consumers to stop using the recalled cooking pots immediately. There have been 22 reports of the pot handle detaching or coming loose. Two burn injuries were reported. The MSR cookware was sold at outdoor equipment stores nationwide from January 2008 through October 2023 for between $40 and $290.
