Toshiba Laptop AC Adapters/Power Cords Recall Lawsuit

Over 15.5 million Toshiba AC adapters were recalled by Dynabook Americas because they were deemed potential burn and fire hazards. Johnson//Becker, PLLC lawyers are currently accepting new lawsuits for Toshiba laptop power cords. Learn more below.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall occurred on February 21, 2024, because the laptop AC adapters could overheat and spark, posing burn and fire hazards. The adapters were sold separately and with Toshiba-brand laptop computers. The adapters have date codes between April 2008 and December 2012 in either a year month, date format, i.e., April 2008 is 0804, or week, date format, i.e., week 15 of 2008 is 0815. The power cords are black and have the model numbers, serial numbers, and date codes printed on the adapter’s rating label. The CPSC provides information detailing which specific codes have been recalled.

The CPSC warns consumers to stop using these laptop chargers immediately. There have been 679 reports of the recalled adapters overheating, catching on fire, melting, or burning, and 43 reports of burn injuries. The Toshiba AC adapters were sold at stores nationwide and Toshiba.com from April 2008 through April 2014. The charging cords ranged in price from $25 to $75.
