According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), when adjusting the backrest while seated, the adjustable backrest can unexpectedly descend with force, posing a potential finger-crushing or amputation hazard. The June 20, 2024, recall involves about 70,000 chaise lounge chairs.
The CPSC warns consumers to stop using the chairs immediately. There have been three reports of incidents which involved consumers’ fingers becoming trapped between the adjustable backrest and the chair frame. Two injuries involved partial finger amputation and one resulted in a finger being crushed.
The recall involves all Cinmar Frontgate Resort Collection Newport Aluminum Chaises (SKU 67333). The lounge chairs were sold in sets of two and in five different colors: champagne silver, cobalt, architectural bronze, matte black, and matte white. In addition to these chairs, Frontgate Resort Collection Newport Teak Chaises (SKU 166218) were also included in the recall. The teak lounge chairs came in weathered and natural finishes.
The reclining outdoor lounge chairs are about 51 inches long and 31 inches wide. The backrest is made of mesh. The chaises have an adjustable backrest that reclines to four positions. “FRONTGATE” is printed in black lettering on a silver badge on the back of the chair.
The patio furniture was sold at Frontgate stores in Georgia, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio, and Texas. The deck chairs were also sold online at Frontgate.com and in Frontgate catalogs from February 2014 through December 2023 for between $600 and $1,400.
