Honda Pioneer 1000 Recall Lawsuit

The Honda Pioneer 1000 off-road vehicle puts consumers at risk of injury. Roughly 82,000 2016-2018 models have been recalled due to a throttle issue.

(June 2019) Do you own a Honda Pioneer 1000? Make sure it isn’t part of this recall!

Honda is recalling all 82,000 units of its 2016-2019 Pioneer 1000 side-by-side recreational off-highway vehicles due to a throttle issue that can stay stuck in the open position.

On June 13, the company issued the recall after receiving 15 reports of the throttle issue. When the throttle stays stuck in the open position, this could result in a loss of vehicle control. There have been six reported crashes, one resulted in a user suffering a concussion and broken nose.

The affected vehicles come in red, blue, green, gray, and yellow. The name “HONDA” can be found on the front, sides, and rear of the vehicle. Additionally, the name Pioneer 1000 can be found on a label on both sides of the vehicles, towards the rear.

The following are the affected model numbers:

  • 2016 / SXS10M3
  • 2016 / SXS10M5
  • 2017 / SXS10M3

  • 2018 / SXS10M3
  • 2018 / SXS10M5
  • 2019 / SXS10M3
  • 2019 / SXS10M5

The Pioneer 1000 were sold at authorized Honda Powersports dealers across the nation from August 2015 to March 2019. They retailed, at the time, for $14,000 to $22,000.

Previous Issues with Honda Pioneer 1000

Off-road vehicles can be a fun drive, as long as it’s safe. The compact vehicles are sturdy enough to cover terrain your normal car or truck is unable to even attempt. This is all the more reason they need to be functioning properly; one mistake and the results could put you in danger.

There have been four recalls on the Pioneer 1000 within the last year.

Certain models of the Pioneer 1000 5P were subjected to a recall last year in November 2018. It was found that an incorrectly installed throttle body on 2016 to 2018 models could ignite. This could lead to fire, burn, or explosion hazards.

At the time of the recall, there had been five reports of the throttle body igniting. Honda recalled 56,000 units and offered a free repair. The model numbers of those affected were the same ones in the most recent recall.

Another issue was with the muffler heat shield melting or catching fire due to a cylinder misfire. This recall was issued in April 2018.

Shortly after the muffler issue, the front door strikers on the 2016 models were compromised in a recall as well. It was found they have cold welds with insufficient welding. This could lead to the striker breaking and the front door unexpectedly opening. If that happens, not only could it scare the driver, but it also increases the risk of injury to front seat occupants.
