Ladyfingers Caterers voluntarily recalled its product from the consumer market in October as a result of the Johnson County Hams recall, which put consumers at risk of listeria monocytogenes.
Ladyfingers Caterers produces Signature Shaved Country Ham Rolls. Their product included the ham produced by Johnson County Ham which was subjected to an 89,000 pound recall earlier in October. Johnson County Hams were contaminated with listeria, a serious and sometimes fatal infection in young children and those with weakened immune systems.
Four people were hospitalized and one person died because of the Johnson County Hams listeria outbreak. Ladyfingers reported one illness so far with this recall.
Ladyfingers company was notified by Johnson County Hams on Oct. 3 that its hams produced between April 3, 2017 and Oct. 3, 2018 were compromised. The company immediately issued a recall of all its Shaved Country Ham rolls because they use Johnson County Hams. They bear UPC: 8 56149 00509 9.
Ladyfingers products were distributed to retail stores in California, District of Columbia, Delaware, North Carolina, New York, South Carolina and Virginia.
Consumers are urged not to eat Ladyfingers products if they match the UPC code and immediately discard the product.
Listeria is a food borne illness that may present itself within one to four weeks after eating contaminated food. Signs of sickness may include convulsions, headache, stiff neck, confusion and loss of balance.
Listeria is particularly dangerous to pregnant women and infants. Pregnant women may experience flu-like symptoms including fever, fatigue and muscle aches. However, it can lead to miscarriage, stillbirth, premature death or life-threatening infection to the newborn.
