The products are distributed across stores in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The Thomasville, Georgia-based food producer sells other brands such as Wonder, Nature’s Own, Dave’s Killer Bread, and Tastykake. Also recalled was the company’s Captain John Derst’s Old Fashioned Bread.

Swiss Rolls Salmonella Food Poisoning

Swiss Roll RecallFlowers Foods indicated Salmonella could be present in the whey flower used in the recalled Swiss Rolls. The powder was provided by a third-party supplier.

Salmonella is a bacterial infection that typically begins 12 to 72 hours after exposure. The symptoms include abdominal cramping, diarrhea, fever, and nausea. Though most recover without treatment, hospitalization is sometimes required.

Young children, elderly persons, or those with weakened immune systems are at risk of experiencing more severe symptoms. If Salmonella gets into the bloodstream it can cause arterial infections, endocarditis, and arthritis. In rare circumstances, Salmonella poisoning can cause death without proper treatment with antibiotics.
