Anker Power Banks Recall Lawsuit

Anker Power Banks used to charge smartphones, tablets, and laptops have been recalled. The lawyers at Johnson//Becker, PLLC, are accepting new cases for recalled products that use lithium-ion batteries.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the lithium-ion battery in the power banks can overheat, posing fire and burn hazards. The October 17, 2024, recall includes about 2,100 units. The recalled Anker Power Banks include the following model numbers: A1642, A1647, and A1652. The power banks can charge devices with a 12W, 15W, and 20W maximum output.

It is well known that lithium-ion batteries are prone to failure, resulting in the phenomenon known as thermal runaway. Thermal runaway refers to a chemical reaction where a repeating cycle of excessive heat causes more and more heat until an explosion occurs. When this happens, the lithium-ion, or li-ion, batteries can catch on fire or explode. This can result in first-, second-, or third-degree burn injuries to anyone nearby. Over the past three years, Johnson//Becker lawyers have successfully tried multiple lithium-ion battery cases.

There have been at least 28 reports of the batteries overheating, exploding, and the power bank catching fire. At least two injuries have been reported so far.

The Anker Power Banks were sold at Best Buy, Target, NEXT TRADING SAS, C2 Wireless, and K Spider Inc. stores nationwide and online at Amazon.com, eBay.com, AAliExpress.com, and Walmart.com from January 2024 through July 2024 for between $40 and $60.
