BMW of North America announced it would be recalling 368 models due to an issue with the front axel.
The problem seems to stem from the front axel swivel bearings. They may not have been properly heat treated during the manufacturing process.
When this occur, the bearings can reduce in strength and potentially lead to breaking. Should this happen, it would cause a loss of vehicular control– posing injury or even death in the event of a crash.
The following 2020 models were affected by this recall lawsuit:
- X3 sDrive30i
- X3 xDrive30i
- X3 M40i
- X4 xDrive30i
- X4 M40i
BMW has instructed owners not to drive their vehicles and that dealers will replace the front axel swivel bearings for free.
