On Sept. 21, 2023, the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) recalled DR Power Equipment’s power chipper shredders due to a risk of injury.
According to the CPSC, pieces of metal can come loose from within the shredder and be forcefully ejected onto nearby consumers. This poses a risk of laceration (cutting). An additional hazard is that the hopper on the shredder can become detached from the shredder, posing injury risks to consumers.
The CPSC received 79 reports of the shredder’s parts coming loose from within the product, including two injury reports. Additionally, there have been three reports of hoppers unexpectedly detaching from the shredder.
Approximately 5,900 units were recalled, with an additional 90 in Canada.
