Textron, manufacturer of specialized vehicles, has announced the recall of the E-Z-GO RXV Personal Transportation Vehicle.
As announced by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the vehicles are recalled because the “steering knuckles and A-arms can break during or after an impact and cause loss of steering control, posing crash and injury hazards.”
The recall affects about 34,000 E-Z-GO vehicles sold between January 2022 and September 2022. Recalled vehicles have a model year of 2022 or 2023, and sell under the names Freedom and Valor.
Consumers are instructed to check for a serial number between 5656874 and 5656886, or 5659215 through 5700741. Owners of recalled E-Z-GO Vehicles should contact Textron to have their vehicle parts repaired.
The manufacturing defect has led to 355 reports of incidents of these parts breaking, leading to at least one injury.
November 9, 2023 Recall
On. Nov. 9, 2023, the recall was expanded to include additional models and serial numbers of the E-Z-GO vehicles as well as select models of the Tracker OX EV vehicle.
According to the CPSC, the recall was expanded due to a defect in the vehicle’s internal motor wiring. The wiring can become damaged over time and cause the vehicle to move unintentionally and lead to a crash.
Approximately 1,660 units are included in the recall in the United States, with an additional 60 in Canada and 20 in Mexico.
The recall now includes the following model and serial numbers:
Electric ELiTE Express S6 and L6 model:
- 3591558
- 3591568
- 3591767-3591769
- 3597204
- 3608440
Tracker OX EV
- 8029703-8030650
Serial numbers are located under the vehicles’ charger receptacles.
The CPSC advises consumers to immediately stop using the recalled vehicles.
