According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled light’s battery can overheat and ignite the light’s plastic housing, posing fire and burn hazards. The June 6, 2024, recall involves more than 1.2 million units. The CPSC warns consumers to stop using the lights immediately.
There has been one report of a consumer’s death and another report of a consumer who was treated for smoke inhalation. There have been nine reports of the lights overheating, including six that resulted in fire and property damage.
The model numbers for the recalled lights start with the following: RE1122, RE1145, RE1362, and RE1250. The model number is printed on a white sticker on the back of the light. The lights measure about 12 inches long and are sold either individually or in a pack of two. The rechargeable lights came in white, silver, almond, black, and rose gold. The lights were sold nationwide at hardware and home improvement stores, including Ace Hardware, Lowe’s, Meijer, and Menards. They were also available for purchase online at Goodearthlighting.com, Amazon.com, Lowes.com, and QVC from October 2017 through January 2024 for between $20 and $35.
