Honda expanded the recall of their Talon 1000 recreational off-road vehicles (ROVs) due to risk of crash and injury. The recall includes 2,000 more vehicles from model year 2021. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) released the recall information on January 12, 2023.
Why were more Honda products recalled?
The CPSC received 18 reports of incidents involving the 2019-2021 Honda Talon 1000 S2 two-seater recreational off-highway vehicles. These reports included one incident in which the driver lost control of the vehicle, resulting in minor injuries from the accident.
The hazard is sudden engine failure due to the vehicle’s intake funnel band screw loosening. The loosened screw can enter the engine through the intake funnel and cause the driver to lose control and crash the vehicle.
What models does Honda’s recall affect?
The model numbers affected by the original recall were the Talon 1000 S2 of model years 2019, 2020, and 2021, and the Talon 1000 S4 of model years 2020 and 2021.
The expanded recall extended the VIN numbers for models Talon 1000 S2 2021, and Talon 1000 S4 2021. Consumers can visit the CPSC website to consult the chart on which VIN numbers are included in this recall.
How many Honda Talon ROVs were recalled?
34,000 units in total were recalled. 2,000 units were added in the January 12th recall, since there were similar issues in the past recall, of the model year 2021. 32,000 were already recalled in March 2022.
If a consumer finds they are in possession of an affected vehicle, they should stop use immediately.
