The Ultrex-Brand Pressure Cooker is a kitchen appliance that has been linked to causing second and third-degree burn injuries to users from exploding contents.

Previously called the Home Shopping Network, HSN LP of St. Petersburg, Fla. initially issued a recall for its Ultrex-Brand Pressure Cookers in 2006 after reports came in of the device failing to remain sealed during operation. The lid was found to open while contents were still under pressure. This caused them to burst out of the device at temperatures the human body does not want to experience.

The 8-quart pressure cooker has an optional steamer basket included, and model number 11453 can be found on the bottom of the pot. They were sold on HSN television network, website, by phone, and at an employee store in Florida between June 2003 and October 2004.

Though 1,450 units were recalled from the market, there may still be pressure cookers being handed down or sold at second-hand stores.

It’s important to note that the HSN Ultrex-Brand Pressure Cooker explosion is not an anomaly to this specific appliance market; many pressure cookers have faulty designs that put users at risk of severe injury.

Furthermore, explosions from pressure cookers can cause severe damage to your kitchen as well. From spewing hot liquids onto the ceiling, to breaking stoves and shattering nearby items – they are incredibly dangerous and cause property damage. This is not only an inconvenience, but a financial setback as well.
