What is the Problem?
The fork steerer tube on the recalled bicycles and framesets can crack, break, or separate during use, posing a fall hazard. BMC and the CPSC have received at least two reports of the fork steerers separating from the bicycle frame. The CPSC warns consumers to stop using the recalled Kaius bicycles immediately.
Is My Bicycle Included in the Recall?
The March 13, 2025, recall includes about 1,300 BMC-branded Kaius 01 Bicycles and Framesets. The bikes and framesets were available in the following colors: Peacock Spider, Carbon Black/Brushed Blue, Purple/White, White/Black, Turquoise/Black, Saffron/Black, and Stone Grey. “BMC” is printed on the downtube. Bikes with a V5 fork are the only bicycles that are included in the recall.
The Kaius 01 Bicycles and Framesets were sold at authorized BMC dealers nationwide and online from July 2022 through February 2025 for between $4,500 and $12,000.
Other Bike Recalls Allegedly Caused by Defective Forks
There are various ways forks can be defective on bicycles. A fork may have cracks, dents, or fractures, welds at joints may be weak, or there may be a design flaw that puts excessive stress on a single area of the frame. Here are a few recent examples of similar recalls due to defective bicycle forks:
Cannondale Cyclocross Bike Recall Lawsuit – A July 25, 2019, recall that included over 10,000 bikes.
Speedmax CF Triathlon Bicycles Recall Lawsuit – A February 27, 2025, recall that included about 1,700 bikes.
