Leachco Podster Lawsuit

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued an urgent warning to parents and caregivers that a number of infant loungers made by Leachco have been linked to multiple infant deaths.

On January 20, 2022, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) issued an urgent warning to consumers to immediately stop using the Podster, Podster Plush, Bummzie and Podster Playtime (the “Podsters”) infant loungers manufactured by Leachco, Inc.

Company Refuses to Issue Voluntary Podster Recall

The CPSC had asked Leachco to recall the products, but the company has failed to do so, and the agency can’t force companies to recall products without taking them to court. The agency issued this warning but said it would continue to investigate the Podsters and consider other actions.

The CPSC has found that the public health and safety requires this notice to warn the public quickly of the hazard.

The U.S. Government safety agency is considering additional action including the filing of an administrative complaint, to protect consumers from the almost 180,000 Podsters sold to date.

Two Infant Suffocation Deaths Linked to Podster

Our lawyers are aware of two infants who were placed on a Podster and suffocated when, due to a change in position, their noses and mouths were obstructed by the Podster or another object. The infants, 17-days old and four-months old, died in January 2018 and December 2015 in the U.S.

One of the deaths was in 2015: According to a CPSC incident report, a 4-month-old boy was at a day care and placed on the lounger. He was discovered unresponsive. The cause of death was ruled to be “accidental complications from asphyxia.” The other incident involved a 17-day-old who died in January 2018.
