The United States Census Bureau’s American Housing Survey (AHS) indicates that over 99% of occupied housing units have a stove or range. According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), ranges and stovetops cause 61% of home cooking fires and 87% of related deaths. LG has announced a recall of 22 models of its Slide-In and Freestanding Electric Ranges. The lawyers at Johnson//Becker, PLLC, are currently accepting new cases for recalled stoves/ranges.
What is the Problem?
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), front-mounted knobs on the recalled ranges can be activated by accidental contact with humans or pets, posing a fire hazard. The February 6, 2025, recall includes about 500,000 LG Slide-In Ranges and Freestanding Ranges with front-mounted knobs. The recalled model numbers include the following:
- LDE4411ST
- LDE4413ST
- LDE4413BD
- LSE4611ST
- LSE4611BD
- LSE4613ST
- LSE4613BD
- LSEL6337D
- LSEL6337F
- LSEL6331F
- LSEL6333F
- LSEL6333D
- LSEL6335D
- LSEL6335F
- LTE4815BM
- LTE4815BD
- LTE4815ST
- LRE4215ST
- LTEL7337F
The model number is located on the ranges inside the oven door or storage drawer located at the bottom of the oven.
Reports of Unintentional Activations
The CPSC has received at least 86 unintentional activations of the front-mounted knobs. The recalled ranges have been involved in more than 28 fires. At least five fires have caused extensive property damage. At least eight injuries have been reported, as well as three fires that resulted in the death of consumers’ pets.
This is not the first time an extensive number of stoves/ranges have been recalled. Johnson//Becker is currently investigating claims for consumers injured by recalled Frigidaire and Kenmore Electric Ovens.
Where Were the Ranges Sold?
The LG Electric Ranges were sold at Best Buy, Costco, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, and other appliance stores nationwide and online at LG.com. Depending on the model, the ovens were sold from 2015 through January 2025 for between $1,400 and $2,650.
