What is the Problem?
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the heat or ozone on-off switch can short circuit, resulting in arcing—when electricity jumps across a gap in an electrical connection—posing a fire hazard.
How Do I Determine If My Product Has Been Recalled?
The CPSC’s February 20, 2025, recall involves about 13,000 OdorStop Boot and Shoe Dryers and Deodorizers with model numbers OSOBSDD2 and OSOBSDD. The model number and “OdorStop” are on a label at the bottom of the product. The boot and shoe dryers dry and deodorize two or four shoes/boots with high-output fans and a 3-hour timer. The dryers were sold online at Amazon.com, OdorStop.com, Lowes.com, Globalindustrial.com, webrestaurantstore.com from December 2018 through October 2023 for between $100 and $130.
What are the Dangers Associated with Electrical Fires?
The Electrical Safety Foundation International reported that home electrical fires account for an estimated 51,000 fires yearly and almost 500 deaths. Regarding this recall, arcing faults have been responsible for starting more than 28,000 home fires, killing and injuring hundreds of people, and causing over $700 million in property damage.
