According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled lighters do not have child-resistant mechanisms and were not tested to the federal regulatory requirements for child resistance. The Code of Federal Regulations stipulates that a lighter sold in the United States must have mechanisms that prevent a child from using it. Young children under five could ignite the lighters, posing fire and burn hazards.
The October 17, 2024, recall involves about 60,000 Olivia Cigar Nub, Olivia, Serie V, and Cain branded cigar lighters given away as promotional items for free. The lighters have the brand name printed on one side, measure 3” x 1 ½” x ¼,” and come in white, brown, or red. The recalled lighters were given away as promotional items by wholesalers and retailers in their marketing campaigns and in cigar lounges from August 2022 through July 2024.
