What is the Problem?
According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled gas boilers can release carbon monoxide (CO) due to delayed ignitions or component damage, posing a risk of serious injury or death. Carbon monoxide (CO) is dangerous in a home because it is a colorless, odorless, and tasteless gas that can be deadly when inhaled in high concentrations. Breathing CO prevents oxygen from reaching the brain and organs, leading to the following symptoms: headaches, dizziness, nausea, confusion, unconsciousness, and death.
Is My Prestige or Aerco Gas Boiler Included in the Recall?
The February 27, 2025, recall includes about 67,500 Prestige Solo, Prestige Excellence, and Aerco Esteem wall-hung condensing gas boilers. The boilers are housed in a white metal box with “Prestige” or “Aerco” printed on the front. The recalled boilers can be identified by their serial number, which can be located on the Boiler Rating Label on the white front panel, on a panel on the right-hand side of the boiler, or behind the boiler’s front door. Check specific model numbers and serial numbers here.
The boilers were manufactured by Burnsen SA, of Belgium, from December 2011 through April 2019 and were sold by wholesale distributors and installed by independent contractors nationwide for between $3,400 and $9,700.
Fatalities Allegedly Linked to Prestige Gas Boilers
According to the CPSC, Triangle Tube has received two reports of death due to CO poisoning associated with the recalled boilers. In 2015, a 47-year-old woman died from CO poisoning associated with a Prestige Solo 175 boiler, and in 2016, an 85-year-old man died from CO poisoning associated with a Prestige SOLO TriMax 175 boiler. Additionally, Triangle Tube has received at least 25 reports of carbon monoxide (CO) leaks from the recalled boilers.
