Quality Bicycle Products Handlebars Recall Lawsuit

Quality Bicycle Products (QBP) initiated a voluntary recall of some handlebars and bikes on account of fracturing handlebars while in use, posing the risk of crash and injury. The Consumer Product Safety Commission posted the recall on Jan. 5, 2023.

Why were the handlebars recalled?

According to the CPSC, the hazard to the handlebars is the device could crack or fracture while the rider brakes or shifts. As a result, the rider could potentially crash and become seriously injured.

There have been no reports of injury, however, QBP received 37 reports of handlebars cracking or fracturing while riding.

What products were comprised in this recall?

The carbon handlebar models are Salsa Cowchipper, Salsa Cowbell, Whisky No.9 12F, and Whisky No.9 24F.

The model names are printed on the front on the non-drive side area of the stem clamp.

Three bicycle models were also recalled: Salsa Cutthroat, Warbird, and Warroad bikes.

QBP’s handlebars were manufactured in Taiwan and imported by the company in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Whisky posted a recall notice on their website for the No.9 12F and 24F carbon handlebars.

Why were some bikes recalled too?

The recall affects some bicycles as well, because the three bike models came with recalled handlebars.

These handlebars were delivered to retailers beginning Jan. 2018 through Aug. 2022.

As of January, 8,740 units were recalled, including 350 sold in Canada. The recall was in cooperation with the CPSC and Health Canada.

Consumers should immediately stop the use of these handlebars and bicycles.
