About 1,160 infant slings were recalled on June 6, 2024. According to the CPSC, “The sling carriers violate the Safety Standard for Sling Carriers, including requirements for structural integrity and occupant retention.” The CPSC indicates that this could pose a fall and suffocation hazard to babies. The CPSC also advised that the Sling Carriers have no warnings or instructional literature for caregivers to keep the baby’s face clear to prevent suffocation. Infant carriers manufactured after January 30, 2018, are subject to this mandatory safety standard.
The sling carriers are designed to be worn by an adult to carry an infant. The slings have an adjustable shoulder strap, a black hook-and-loop waist and crotch restraint, and a black plastic buckle. The exterior is navy, and the interior colors and patterns vary. The brand name is not listed anywhere on the product.
The CPSC warns consumers to stop using the infant slings immediately. The recalled Joybuy Marketplace Express Sling Carriers were sold online at Walmart.com from September 2020 through April 2023. The infant carriers cost between $15 and $21.
