According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the refrigerator door can detach and fall off, posing an injury hazard. The August 8, 2024 recall involves about 900 refrigerators. There have been nine reports of the SMEG Refrigerator doors falling off. The CPSC warns consumers to stop using the fridges immediately.
The recall involves SMEG retro-style refrigerators with freezers. The fridges measure about 28 inches wide, 30 inches deep, and 80 inches high. The refrigerators were sold in cream, pastel blue, black, pastel green, red, and white. “SMEG” is on the front of the refrigerator, and a white label inside the fridge says “Made in Italy” along with the model number (FAB38U) and serial numbers that begin with 2781.
The SMEG Refrigerators were sold at independent kitchen and appliance stores nationwide and online at Williamssonoma.com, AJMadison.com, and Wayfair.com from September 2020 through January 2024 for about $4,300.
