According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the Tideway handheld hair dryers lack an immersion protection device, posing an electrocution or shock hazard to consumers. The CPSC has determined that hair dryers not equipped with immersion protection present a substantial product hazard to consumers. The CPSC warns consumers to stop using the recalled hair dryers immediately.
The July 3, 2024 recall involves about 40,000 units. The specific hair dryers include the Tideway High-Speed Hair Dryers PRO M01 with dual speed settings. The dryers were sold in white with gold on the handle. “Tideway” is printed on the front of the handle. The hair dryers also have an LED ring that displays the different temperature settings.
The hair dryers were sold online at TikTokShop.com, Shopify.com, and other websites from November 2023 through March 2024 for about $170.
