Empower Brands’ PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers, imported by Tristar Products, Inc., has been recalled for burn injury risks. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) instituted the recall on May 18, 2023.
Why did Tristar recall their waffle makers?
According to the CPSC, PowerXL Stuffed Wafflizer waffle makers come with a burn injury risk. Hot pieces of waffle could expel from the waffle maker while cooking or upon opening the device. Hot waffle pieces could burn nearby consumers.
There have been 44 incident reports from the waffle makers, including 34 burn injuries.
Approximately 456,000 units of the waffle makers have been recalled.
What models make up the Tristar waffle maker recall?
The Tristar waffle maker recall constitutes of two models:

- PowerXL Model ESWM02 (five inch)
- PowerXL Model ESWM03 (seven inch)
The waffle makers came in the following colors:
- Black
- White
- Red
- Cinnamon
- Gray
- Lavender
- Lemon
- Ocean
- Slate
- Seafoam
- Sage
This is not the first time Tristar Products, Inc. has experienced problems with their products. According to a Complaint filed on Mar. 6, 2023, consumers have alleged that Tristar’s pressure cookers are defective. The Complaints also allege that the pressure cookers caused burn injuries because of the pressure cooker lid’s ability to open while under pressure.
