Minerva Gil is one of many consumers who has experienced a horrific encounter in the kitchen with a Nutribullet blender. Three years prior to the judgment, Gil was mixing vegetables and water in her Nutribullet 900 when the device exploded.
The contents had been heated by the rotating blades of the blender. By the time the device exploded, the contents were so hot, they injured her face, arms and neck upon impact.
She lodged a complaint against the California-based company after the incident in March 2016 for negligence, failure to warn, and defective design. To this day, she has disfigurement and scarring.
In April 2018, FOX 11 Los Angeles issued an investigative report on injuries similar to Gil’s. The news station also obtained a test video of the Nutribullet, showing how it explodes under various circumstances. The 8-minute video can be seen below but does contain graphic photos.
NutriBullet is manufactured by Capital Brands, LLC and sold online and in stores across the world. Homeland Housewares was the original creator of the Nutribullet system and are also the creators of the Magic Bullet, which has caused similar injuries with consumers.
