Johnson//Becker, PLLC is a nationwide product liability law firm who has represented over 700 clients burned by exploding pressure cookers.

There has been a rapid increase in pressure cooker explosion lawsuits due to alleged defective designs. Clients in these lawsuits have been severely injured and burned by scalding hot contents ejected from the pressure cookers. Numerous recalls have been ordered by the CPSC for a variety of issues with pressure cookers.

Johnson//Becker, PLLC filed a lawsuit against Zavor for a client’s burn injuries due to the company’s Zavor Versa Express Pressure Cooker exploding, according to the lawsuit’s Complaint.

Zavor Pressure Cooker Explosion

Electric pressure cookers were invented in the 90’s to replace stovetop pressure cookers, which had been around since the 1930s. The electric pressure cookers generate their own heat to maintain the operating temperature and pressure, cooking the food inside in a shorter amount of time.

Modern electric pressure cookers are not supposed to open while still under pressure due to the high temperature and pressure. However, according to several lawsuits, consumers are still able to open the pressure cooker lid while still under pressure. If this happens, the scalding hot contents could eject from the pressure cooker and land on bystanders and surrounding areas.

Zavor Pressure Cooker Burn Injuries

Exploding pressure cookers ejecting scalding contents onto bystanders have sent them to the emergency room for burn injury treatments. Plaintiffs who have suffered severe burn injuries have had to endure extreme pain long after the incident, losing time at work and with family and friends.

Pressure cooker injuries have caused the following damages:

  • First-, second-, and third-degree burns
  • Doctor visits and/or hospitalization
  • Infection
  • Skin grafts
  • Lost time from work
  • Permanent scarring and/or disfigurement
  • PTSD (Post traumatic stress disorder)
